That's about the state of it.

The strategy is to drive the league/football out there beyond a certain point where after it becomes self-supporting (and, I assume they hope, "local" talent will start to rise through the game).

There is massive (MASSIVE) demand in that part of the world to gamble on anything that can be gambled on. Must be a big temptation to control the whole show.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
There are if Chinese clubs offer that for them. No player is worth more than £1million really so the true value is simply whatever a club is willing and able to pay for any player. Hardly any of our big money signings have been worth the sum paid, in terms of ability.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
By that reckoning there must be at least 500 that are worth £50m, which there are not!

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
Depends how many 'top' we're talking. He's in the top 500 which is in a pretty small percentage of all the players in the world.

Alex V - one of the worlds most talented players? Are you sure? He's not even one of the most talented players in Cobham, let alone the fucking world!

Pervy, you're right, it's no different to our top division.

I look forward to the day a Chinese team wins the World Club Cup and we can revisit this thread and all the arrogant posters herein.

Appreciate the owners or consortiums of these clubs are billionaires but they would not hand over their cash without realising it as an investment.

In which case, the clubs must receive large sums of money for TV subscriptions to watch the games, not sure how it works out there but it must be like Sky which is why Prem clubs have handed such huge sums. And considering how many people there are in China...you can imagine these sums are even larger.

They have basically opened up the European market like a shopping window to the public, allowing them to follow their favourite players and then make bids for them. Obviously then comes the endorsements and income through shirt money, advertising etc...!

It has to be worth their while spending all this money on these players. At first it was the odd has been marquee signing, much like the MLS, but now they're preying on the greedier sides of football players (of which most of them have) and offering eye watering sums of money to come and show boat every week.

No doubt they have some sort of Asian Champions League but it can't be on the same world wide scale in terms of public attraction. And they aren't exactly doing their national side any good. In that respect it's much like the Prem and our national side.

He hasn't played much because it's between him and hazard for that role, and with the form Eden is in, there's only one winner there.

"I don't think £52m is unreasonable in the current market. One of the world's most talented players, still only 25."

Massive bait surely ? Hardly played since Sept....he is good.....but worth max £30M

£50? We'll probably get that for Carroll, if we're lucky.

To be honest never quite seen the fuss with Oscar.
He isn't in the Chelsea team is he?
Can understand him moving for maybe £30m in the silly market but no one else would pay close to £50m.
The players are going for the salaries so they really only need to match the highest bid.

Jelavic for £3.8m was dodgy enough

I don't think £52m is unreasonable in the current market. One of the world's most talented players, still only 25.

sven

i would imagine they pay over the odds to make sure they they have no competition, also the players will get a handsome chunk of that fee paid, not to mention their agents who are obviously trying to convince their players to move there in the first place. juventus were looking to pay about 30/35m for oscar last season.
